Civitas does people-oriented landscape architecture. The principals in the firm are smart, even cerebral (the brochure opens with a quotation from Alexander Pope) and they wanted to work with people who appreciated their approach. They also wanted their marketing brochure to stand out among all their competitors' brochures, which seemed to have endless pictures of green grass. Instead of using an architectural photographer, we hired a portrait photographer, Richard Peterson, to document their projects and reproduced the photos in sepia toned black and white. It personalizes the images, bringing them down to human scale.
The cover of the brochure shows earth and sky in a conceptual landscape with their logo - three green dots - on the horizon.
